On Cloud 9 Wedding Shower

Bay Area Bridal Shower Ideas

A Dreamy Bridal Shower

My bride, Jenny, was on cloud nine when Ben Lau asked her to marry him, so she turned her new last name into a cheeky pun and the theme for her bridal shower — ”On Claud 9” — was born. That was the only detail Jenny took care of by herself, though; when it came to throwing a fun, creative bridal shower at her Gilroy, CA home, she left everything else to Leanne Lane Weddings.

As a top Bay Area wedding planner, I’m used to celebrating my brides’ special moments with them, but being this bridal shower event planner was extra special because Jenny is my sister! I used her bridal shower as an opportunity to push myself creatively, and she loved the dreamy aesthetic we landed on.

The Vibe: Elegant, Memorable, Detailed

I wanted the guests to feel like they were floating in the clouds, and used that inspiration to create the entire event, starting with the stationery. The shower invitations were chef’s kiss and created the perfect first impression for Jenny’s party. My layered stationery design included paper with a whimsical cloud print, a vellum overlay with cloud graphics, and a fun cloud-shaped paper clip bundled in an envelope stamped with the couple’s faces.

When April 6 arrived, I wowed Jenny and her guests with a heavenly tablescape — the center of my event design. The classic white table linens, acrylic chairs, and white candles with glass votives gave the tables an elegant look and set the stage for the canopy of twinkle lights and homemade cloud balloon installations above. Creating the installation was a massive design achievement that I wouldn’t have been able to produce without Chairs 4 Events, who built custom scaffolding that I attached the lights and balloons to.  It was the perfect place for guests to sit and enjoy all of Jenny’s favorite treats and play bingo as she opened gifts: glasses of frosé, champagne topped with clouds of cotton candy, fresh tacos, and cloud-shaped Rice Krispies Treats. We also treated guests to another one of Jenny’s favorites — a permanent jewelry bar, because my sister loves adding to her collection.

Every Leanne Lane Weddings event is unique, but I made an extra effort to have Jenny’s bridal shower stand out because many of her friends and bridesmaids are getting married around the same time. And if the unique theme, personalized food and beverage selections, and guest dress code of white wasn’t enough to make that happen, the evening timeline definitely was.

While most bridal showers are held in the morning or early afternoon, I recommended an evening shower to create more of a party feel — the perfect vibe for Jenny and her friends — with the candles and twinkle lights setting the mood. As the sun set, the massive “On Claud 9” marquee lights from Alpha Lit became the perfect backdrop for the dance floor, which the Lavender Fields Band kept packed.

The Feedback

All in all, it was a dreamy bridal shower that the woman of the day loved. “I wanted something that wasn’t your typical theme for a bridal shower while making it personal to me. Yes, Cloud 9 is a somewhat popular theme, but implementing my new last name into it was the cherry on top. Leanne took my ideas to the next level to make it special, personal and EPIC!” — Jenny, 2024 bridal shower event planning client
